Convention Etiquette 101

From official FanimeCon policies to unspoken floor rules, here is how to be a great attendee and keep the weekend fun for everyone.

The Do's: Survival & Respect

Follow these essential guidelines to ensure you and everyone around you has a safe, comfortable weekend:

Do ask before taking photos: Always get verbal permission before photographing a cosplayer. Wait for them to pose, and never block the flow of traffic in the halls while taking the picture.
Do hydrate and adhere to the 6-2-2 Rule: Try to aim for at least 6 hours of sleep, 2 real meals, and 1 shower (along with a deodorant). Please Do not skip this!
Do get your props Peace-Bonded: Per Fanime's official Props Policy, all prop weapons must be inspected and tagged at the Peace-Bonding Station outside the main entrance before you enter the building.
Do keep your badge visible: Fanime rules require your badge to be worn above the waist and easily visible at all times while inside the Convention Center space.

FanimeCon's Attendee Relations takes safety very seriously. Avoid these major missteps to prevent having your badge revoked:

Don't assume Cosplay is Consent: This is a strict Fanime rule. Do not hug, touch, or grab anyone without receiving explicit permission. Be mindful that there is a real person behind the costume.
Don't brandish props: You may pose dynamically for photos, but swinging, play-fighting, or brandishing prop weapons in a way that could be considered unsafe is strictly prohibited.
Don't run indoors: Respect everyone's personal space. Move carefully through the Convention Center and maintain the flow of traffic to prevent accidents with large cosplay pieces.
Don't ignore the volunteer staff: The Attendee Relations staff (the people managing the lines) are there for your safety. Always follow their directions regarding line control and access.
