What We are explaining

A lot of Teens are uneducated about the dangers of social media, But some think that social media is so bad, that it shouldn't be used at all! These both are incorrect because social media can be used but just not too much

The Cons of Social Media

According to sleepstation.org (all sources can be viewed on the main page), scrolling through social media late at night can delay sleep because mobile phones produce a blue light, which tells the brain that it is daytime, even when it actually is not. So when you go to bed, your brain will think that it is still day and you won’t be able to sleep. This shows that you can be on social media, just not at night as there are adverse effects. 25.2% of teenagers are affected by this, and the average teenager falls asleep around eleven PM.

According to mayoclinic.org, a 2019 study in England showed that 12,000 teens were using social media for more than three hours a day. They also found that using social media more than three times a day can lead to poor mental health and well- being in teenagers. In addition to this, a 2015 study shows that social comparison and feedback seeking by teens was linked to depressive symptoms. This proves that social media can cause teenagers to have poor emotional health

The Pros of Social Media

Despite all of the cons, social media does in fact have a few benefits. For one, you can stay connected with family and friends, have quick access to research and information, online learning, job skills and content discovery. A great example of this is YouTube, which contributes to learning and educating. This shows that even though social media has a lot of downsides, it can be beneficial in some ways.

Conclusion

All in all, social media has a lot of benefits, such as helping you to connect with others and easily accessing information. It also has a lot of downsides, such as cyberbullying, poor mental health and low quality sleep. So: it's okay to use social media, just not all the time. In the case of social media, the sky is not the limit!
