Module 5: A Couple of Paintings

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt

This is one of my favorite artworks of all time because it shares a very intimate and sweet moment between two lovers. I like that their bodies almost melt into one and, to me, it symbolizes what it means to fully unite with and surrender to somebody special.

The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard

The Swing by Fragonard

This was one of the paintings I remembered most from my humanities class. I love how detailed it is and how many hidden meanings it contains. The painting represents infidelity, with one lover unknowingly pushing the swing while the other secretly watches from below. Even the dog, angels, bushes, and flying shoe symbolize different ideas in the artwork.
