'To land a quadruple jump, skaters must trade-off the needs for both height and rotation. Too much effort driving upwards with their arms for height can mean slower rotations in the air. A stronger rotation pushing off the ice can mean less force to jump high. In my opinion Figure Skating lives in the uncanny valley where sport intersects with art. In addition to their jumps, spins, lifts, and the speed they execute these athletic elements figure skaters are also judged on their presentation. That includes the costumes skaters wear and the makeup female figure skaters apply to their face. There has been criticism of racism, and sexism within the sport.
