Though versions of the printing press had been invented prior to 1450, the first traditional printing press was invented in 1450. The Gutenburg Press was the first traditional printing press, having used metal presses rather than wood. This version of the press also perfected the method for flattening paper. The original print only made 2 books, the bible and the book of psalms, but this was the beginning of a new technology that would change the world. Italy would be next, then France, then Spain, then all across the world. As the printing press spread, it left its mark on history. It spread the books of John Calvin and Copernicus, causing the chruch to lose more and more power. After this, the printing technology didn't advance for a long time.
