Problem Statement
Traditional learning platforms often overwhelm working professionals and independent learners with cluttered screens, distracting sidebars, and rigid designs that ignore diverse accessibility needs. Learners need a calm, private, and customizable space that puts focus first, making it easy to find materials and move around without feeling stressed or fatigued.
Persona
Marcus: A 45-year-old administrative professional who struggles with advanced literacy and professional formatting. He spends time using private browser windows and AI tools to hide his gaps from coworkers out of worry of not being seen as smart or qualified enough. He requires a secure, judgment-free space to build his professional skills at his own pace.
Key Features
• Easy Navigation & Quick Search: Instant search filtering that helps learners find classes and resources in seconds.
• Built-In Accessibility: Adjustable text scaling and clearly designed cards to ensure comfortable reading and smooth keyboard navigation.
• Interactive Lessons & Support: Step-by-step progress tracking, easy bookmarking for favorite items, and a helpful AI study chat that is easy to see and access.
Testing & Iteration Summary
Feedback from our human testers and AI focus group was generally positive. Participants appreciated the lack of public streaks and leaderboards, which removed outside pressure and anxiety. While they praised the overall layout and search tools, testing pointed out a few key areas to improve: users wanted to see at least one of the sample lessons with clear explanations, more ways to adjust accessibility, a faster way to save helpful resources, and better visibility for the chat box so that it was easier to locate.
We responded by adding a bookmarking feature so saved items are easier to locate. We also expanded accessibility options with text scaling and focus modes, introduced interactive lesson quizzes with supportive feedback, and adjusted the chat widget placement so people can see and use the assistant much more easily. These changes transformed the app into a genuinely welcoming, efficient space for independent study.
Final Reflection
Building and testing this prototype highlighted the immense journey from early brainstorming, sketching, and Venn diagrams to a fully functional digital solution. While managing code and technical implementation presented a real hurdle, the most rewarding aspect was collaborating as a team and watching our initial ideas evolve into a tangible, interactive tool. Ultimately, listening closely to feedback and turning it into practical, friendly features helped bridge the gap between a standard course layout and a truly supportive learning experience.
