Transportation has changed in many ways due to innovation. From walking on foot to riding horses to riding in cars and planes. Let's look at the ways transportation has changed due to innovation.

• Before 3000 BCE: The only mode of transportation that humans could use, even for long distances. It was very tiring and gruesome.


• 3000-2500 BCE: Humans began riding horses as a mode of transportation.


• 1300-1400 CE: Humans began inventing horse-drawn vehicles to get around quicker and be able to also transport goods.

• 1807: Robert Fulton made the fist steam powered boat for traveling across water.


• 1845: Isambard Kingdom Brunel made the first iron-hulled ship, named the SS Great Britain.

• 1885: Karl Benz made the first ever car. It was gasoline powered.


• 1903: Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright (Wright Brothers) made the first airplane and rode it at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

• 1914: Henry T. Ford made an affordable mass-produced car line, making cars easier to get with less cost.

• 1937: Sir Frank Whittle and Dr. Hans von Ohain made the first jet engine, revolutionizing travel in the air.

• 1956: Malcom McLean standardized cargo containers, transforming global trade efficiency.


• 1870's: Leisure-focused ships like Royal Caribbean’s Song of Norway redefined passenger sea travel.


• 1990's: Dr. Ivan Getting made the GPS for boats, which enabled precise routing, safety, and logistics for commercial and recreational vessels.

• 1997: Toyota Priyus launched the world's first mass-produced hybrid (electric and gasoline in one car) cars.


• 2009: Uber was founded, which revolutionized urban mobility with ride-sharing.

• 2020's: AI driven vehicles and high-speed vacuum tube transport systems emerge, which threatens to revolutionize transportation.
