The current theory of how cats became domesticated is 8,000-10,000 years ago humans began farming in large numbers in the Middle East, they cultivated wheat which attracted rodents. The wildcats left their habitats and came to human civilization seeking tasty rodent meat. The relationship between early humanity and cats was mutually benefitual which led to the popualr saying cats domesticated themselves.
