How to Improve Your Picking Techniuqe

String Skipping

What is String Skipping?

String skipping is a guitar technique in which the player jumps over one or more strings. It's mostly used in Metalcore and Technical Death Metal to create wide note jumps easier.

Practice Tips

  1. Start Slow With A Metronome
  2. Use Small Pick Movements
  3. Keep Wrist Relaxed
  4. Focus on Hitting The Right Strings

An Exercises I Made

  1. String Skipping Riff

NOTE: There is one SUPER IMPORTANT thing you need to remeber when string skipping. ALWAYS hit the notes on the lower strings with a downstroke and the higher strings with an upstroke. Alternate picking these types of riffs is very challanging and can make the riff sound not as good.
